Stop Adware Pop-ups Easily

Pop-ups are, as you may have guessed, windows that “pop up” or open of their own accord, usually as you are browsing the Internet. It is likely that you will come across a pop-up window almost every day.

Adware Pop-ups – What they are and How to Get Rid of Them

Pop-up windows are used by many companies for many different reasons. For example, some websites provide extra information within pop-up windows instead of opening another web page or having the user leave the page that he or she is on. Also, some links open in new pop-up windows, which again act to keep the user on the initial website, while still browsing the new one.

These uses of pop-up windows are mostly helpful for Internet users, but on the flip side there are a number that are not. Other uses of pop-ups can be harmful and even malicious.

While there are a number of different pop-ups out there, many people come into contact with those that are linked to advertising. While in some cases, pop-ups can be quite harmless; this is not the case with adware files. Adware is a type of software that is used to keep track of a user’s activity while using the Internet. This information is then used to produce pop-ups that are related to what the user is interested in. In many cases, adware pop-ups are linked to free pieces of software that have been downloaded by a user. When the free software is installed, so is the program that initiates the adware pop-ups. Running scripts on the Internet is another common method of having pop-ups appear on a user’s screen.

While pop-ups can be very annoying, that is not the only reason that a user should want to remove or block their creation. It is also important to block adware pop-ups so that less of your personal information is being collected by unknown entities.

Getting Rid of Adware Pop-ups

Most Internet browsers come with their own pop-up blockers installed. Both Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer provide a pop-up blocker. The pop-up blocker service often allows the user to decide whether to block the pop-up always or to allow them based on the site, its security and the reason for the pop-up.

All computer users should have anti-virus software installed on their computers. It is not uncommon for viruses to install adware on an infected computer, which can then track your computer usage and create adware pop-ups.

Anti-spyware programs target adware and spyware on a computer, instead of looking for viruses. These types of program can locate the adware and spyware programs and remove them from the system, so that pop-ups will no longer be generated. A number of Search Agency companies, such as Yahoo and Google, offer toolbars for use with the different Internet browsers. Installation of these toolbars often includes a pop-up blocker service. This service can stop adware pop-ups from being generated. Not all toolbars include a pop-up blocker, so be sure to check before installing if this is the reason you are adding the toolbar.
